American show standard

White is not allowed under the AKC American conformation standard; AKC says registering a white Miniature Schnauzer requires photographs for review. The AKC standard is specifically about conformation; it is separate from registration. Review the official color section for its exact requirements.
Color, registration & showing
These are different questions.
The AKC American Miniature Schnauzer breed standard allows salt and pepper, black and silver, and solid black in conformation. Other colors or patterns are disqualifications in that show setting. AKC explains that a dog with a disqualifying color may still be registrable; registration does not mean the coat meets the conformation standard. A color name also says nothing by itself about health, temperament, parentage, or availability.
