Liver is a breeder color term for a brown appearance. The shade in a photo may look different from the coat in person, especially after a haircut.
We recommend looking at current, unfiltered photos or a live video call when comparing puppies. Coat labels should support the conversation, while health care and a good family match lead it.
American show standard
Outside the AKC conformation color standard.
Liver is outside the three AKC American conformation colors for Miniature Schnauzers. The AKC standard is specifically about conformation; it is separate from registration. Review the official color section for its exact requirements.
Color, registration & showing
These are different questions.
The AKC American Miniature Schnauzer breed standard allows salt and pepper, black and silver, and solid black in conformation. Other colors or patterns are disqualifications in that show setting. AKC explains that a dog with a disqualifying color may still be registrable; registration does not mean the coat meets the conformation standard. A color name also says nothing by itself about health, temperament, parentage, or availability.
